  • A Massive Thank You

Wow! What a season – four top class motocross meetings which kicked off in April with the opening round of the DirtStore ACU British Championship, and came to a superb finale at the end of September with the final round of the ACU Eastern Championship sponsored by Stebbings Car Superstore and Norton Way Honda; and none of it would have been possible without the small army of volunteers and professionals who worked tirelessly to make these events happen.

Always difficult to acknowledge everyone, but it would be remiss not to mention Andrew & Val Hay who spend countless hours both at home and at Lyng covering every aspect from rider entries to cleaning the loos; and not forgetting all the officials, marshals, and start gate staff without whom the events wouldn’t run at all.

Also, many thanks to VTS Event Medical Services who provide us with such professional medical support, and of course the riders, who from beginners through to Grand Prix winners have tackled the Cadders Hill track to ‘put on the show!’.

We are fortunate to be supported by a number of businesses which help to lift the ever-increasing financial burden, especially Anthony Skerry of Stebbings Car Superstore for his continued support, and to Max Monk, Monk Plant Hire for their help throughout the year.

And of course, not least, the fans, who have attended in their thousands. We look forward to seeing you all at Lyng for another season of high-quality motocross in 2025.

  • Dominant Nunn Signs Off The Season In Style!

On Sunday the 29th of September, the Norwich Viking MCC hosted the 7th and final round of the 2024 ACU Eastern Centre Championship. With title sponsors Stebbings Car Superstore and Norton Way Honda Group in attendance, the season finale would play out in dry but testing conditions at the famous Cadders Hill circuit.

With 2024 expert champion Sam Nunn (John Banks Honda) and Junior champion Tim Warnes (MPM, RWT Kawasaki) already sealing their respective titles up at Blaxhall two weekends ago, the fight within the podium places in both classes were still up for grabs and it was sure to go down to the wire in a frantic finish.

Premier class race 1 kicked into life and the two team-mates Nunn and Tombs were fighting it out on the early laps as youngster Will Farrow (Southside Mx KTM) made a cracking start in the top 3. Luke Parker (MPM Kawasaki) started the day 23 points ahead of Tombs in the battle for second spot in the championship and closely followed the leaders through but was never close enough to make a move. Fastest qualifier from the morning Jake Rackham was starting to move up in the top five alongside Luke Benstead, while Sam Nunn passed Tombs and breezed his way past the back markers and over the line to take the first race win. Tombs was second and Benstead moving into third on the final lap past Rackham. Parker home in fifth and would see his gap decrease to Tombs after race 1.

In the Premier class race 2, it was Rackham out of the gate first with the Honda trio of Tombs, Nunn and Dylan Woodcock close behind. A good start for Tony Craig would see him sit comfortably in the top 5 all race long while Luke Parker had a real battle on his hands, after a poor start would see him lurking outside the top ten, he would then fight his way onto the rear wheel of Craig by the end of the race. The Honda quartet however put on a fantastic display of racing at the front. Nunn would first pass Tombs and then set his sights on Rackham, and as the youngster was struggling with lapped traffic, Nunn pounced and made the move. He would go on to take his second win of the day with Rackham in second place, Tombs in Third and Woodcock in fourth.

The final Premier class race of the season would see Local Star Luke Parker gain the holeshot and into an early lead, Nunn was never too far away on the opening laps and again Tombs putting in a consistent pace to stay in touch. Dylan Woodcock made some smart moves in the top ten past his rivals alongside Max Broadbelt who was on the comeback trail from a nasty injury only a few months ago. Parker would delight his home crowd up until just after halfway through when Nunn would emerge in the lead and never looked back, taking the checkered flag for the third time to wrap up the season in stunning fashion. Parker finished second ahead of Tombs, Woodcock and Craig.

Sam Nunn was crowned the 2024 Eastern Centre Champion after a season of top displays and completely deserves the plaudits. Luke Parker would stand on the second step of the podium and Lewis Tombs ended the season third.

In the Junior championship, Tim Warnes would win the 2024 title ahead of top junior placed rider on the day Harry George. On the third step of the podium was Jae Jeffries after a great display all year long.

The support A overall was taken by Sam Rogers with a 1-1-5 ahead of Gareth Lane with a 2-4-2 finish. In third was Lee Kirkpatrick with a 7-3-7.

In support B the honors went to Joseph Henthorn with a 1-1-1 ahead of Max Hale with a 2-2-2. In third was Reece Horne with a 6-3-3.

Support C class overall went to Shaun Tacey with a 1-1-2 ahead of Andrew Webster with a 3-3-1 and Shaun King with a 2-2-4.

  • ACU Eastern Motocross Championship Finale
Cadders Hill, Lyng, Norfolk - Sunday 29th September
    'Crowning the Champions"

The Norwich Viking MCC will host the final round of the Stebbings Car Superstore and Norton Way Honda ACU Eastern Motocross Championship at Cadders Hill, Lyng on Sunday 29th September. Strong entries in both the Expert and Junior classes will see a full entry of 160 of the region's very best riders taking on one of the toughest venues in Europe as the season reaches its climax.

    Sam Nunn

Sam Nunn grabbed his first Centre Expert Championship title at the penultimate round at Blaxhall in Suffolk earlier this month, but will be keen to show that the red plate is on the front of the right bike! All eyes will be on the fight for second in the final table as Norwich's Luke Parker is just 23 points ahead of Lewis Tombs, with 75 available over the three races. Another former champion, Shaun Southgate, has had to withdraw from the meeting due to sustaining multiple injuries while practicing last week. Both Tombs and Parker are going to have to be at the top of their game though to get the maximum points haul as leading British Championship riders Jake Nicholls and Dylan Woodcock aiming to make things as difficult as possible for those chasing the podium places. Nicholls will hope to continue where he left off at the Woodbridge club venue two weeks ago when he rode to a stunning treble. The Suffolk based star always rides well on the tough going at Lyng.

    Tim Warnes

The Junior championship was also wrapped up at Blaxhall by Norwich Viking rider Tim Warnes, some 20 years since he first won this championship after taking a break from the sport. Warnes, from Great Dunham, will be aiming to finish on a high at his home track despite pressure from over 130 Junior graded riders challenging for a place in the Premier class races. Who takes the other two places in the championship is where the interest really lays. No fewer than four riders are covered by 30 points so we may have to wait until the chequered flag at the final race of the season to get the answer. Matt Pope, one of Tim Warnes' major sponsors, is second at present with Harry George, Jae Jeffries, and Jordan Andrews all capable of taking the honours.

A full day's action begins at 9.30am with timed qualification, followed by a short lunch break. The full 12 race schedule gets underway when the first championship race roars off the start line at approximately 11.45am.

Admission prices are Adults £10; accompanied children 15 and under free; unaccompanied children £5. Car park free.

Cadders Hill, Lyng can be found using the post code NR9 5QZ, There will be signage from both the A47 and the A1067.
