Some of the world’s best motocross riders put on a terrific display of top flight racing at round three of the Motul ACU British Motocross Championship in Norfolk on Sunday. In the headline MX1 class it was Conrad Mewse who set the pace on his Crendon Tru 7 Honda. The defending champion underlined his pole position in qualifying with a gate to flag victory in the opening race. Following in his tyre tracks were the Grand Prix duo of Ben Watson on the Dirtstore Triumph and Gabriel SS24 KTM mounted Spaniard Oriel Oliver who went wheel to wheel to decide the other two places on the podium.
The second race was an altogether different challenge for Mewse as he slipped off his machine on the opening lap before remounting and fighting his way through the field to lose out on second place by a mere one second after 12 gruelling laps. Oriel held on to the runner up spot with Ben Watson tasting the winners champagne. Local riders Bayliss Utting from Long Stratton, and Wymondham’s Max Broadbelt reinforced their credentials at this level with championship points scoring finishes in both races.
Conrad Mewse
The MX2 class never fails to impress, and the racing at Cadders Hill was once again no holds barred! After setting the fastest lap by just a tenth of a second in the morning’s qualifying Charlie Hayman completed the full set with victory in both races on the SC Sporthomes Husqvarna. In the opening encounter that saw the race stopped at two thirds duration due to a red flag incident, it was another Spanish rider enjoying the challenge of the Lyng track, David Braceras on his Mxology Ktech Triumph, who claimed second ahead of ASA United Gas Gas mounted Ben Mustoe. Once again the MX2 riders provided arguably the best race of the day in their final outing when Hayman and 2025 champion Tommy Searle went over the finish line side by side. The timing transponders on their bikes giving the verdict to Hayman by point four of a second after 30 minutes of action on one of the toughest tracks in Europe.
Alfie Geddes-Green
Norfolk teenager Alfie Geddes-Green made the short journey to his home circuit to compete in the MX125 youth races. The Yamaha rider was in top form and qualified in fourth place of a thirty seven strong entry of the best up and coming riders in the country. It didn’t all go to plan in the day’s first race of the Norwich Viking Motorcycle Club organised event, when he had a difficult first lap which left him way down the field, but by the chequered flag he had moved himself up to eleventh and more importantly, added to his championship points tally. Things went a little smoother in his other race and he replicated his startline position with a superb fourth place finish.
